Here is some of what we did in class:
[you can use these ideas at home to further enrich your kids!]
- SHAVING CREAM WRITING- I would read a good book and then stop and sound out certain words that the kids would have to write with fingers in shaving cream! GOOEY and MESSY but incredible for tactile learning and quick phonics thinking!
-DIGGING FOR TREASURE
the kids tried to be the first one to find certain things in our "treasure box" by digging through a huge box of Styrofoam packing peanuts! Again messy but amazing for their minds, and hand/eye coordination. They had to find things like- a foam letter that is the first/last letter of a certain word; find letters that spell an entire word; or match a letter that with an object in the box that starts with that letter! AND A LOT MORE
PHONICS 'PH-ISHING'
We went phonics 'ph-ishing'(fishing)
H it was great for patience and physical dexterity as well as having a ton of fun while being familiarized with letters and sounds.
One of the great aspects of our LIFT classes, is the continual mind-building discussion that goes on.
Whether it's comparing shaving cream to snow and dissecting the different aspects, or talking about how butter is made, it is my goal to try and always to facilitate discussion, questions and thoughts.
This way the kids really understand things; are always learning; are improving their articulatory ability; expanding their vocabulary; increasing their knowledge; and thinking deep thoughts!
Here are some pictures that show that at LIFT- Learning Is Fun Together...
