We learned so much through games and creative activities! What a way to get their minds and bodies working and maturing.
We practiced reading skills – strengthening basic phonics and letter/sound mastery through “Phonics Twister”, hair gel writing, and “Hopping letters.”
We developed their ability to feel, discern, make comparisons, evaluate and describe objects and their characteristics with “Blindfold feely boards”
We were scientists creating “Gloop” = We discussed that we were just like Thomas Edison – persevering through our scientific trials and errors.
We listening to and learned to appreciate the great literature of poetry while creating architectural masterpieces – with yummy colored bricks (that looked a lot like mini-marshmallows.)
Not only were they stretching and using their minds with these different activities but they were “crosstraining” – using their hands, eyes, balance, bodies, words, and ears, as well as their brains as they learned. Educational scientists and experts tell us this is the very best and most enduring way to learn.
Looking forward to another opportunity next week to prove that Learning Is Fun Together at LIFT!
What to do at home
- A way to continue the learning we are doing at LIFT, is to get the whole family involved and practice describing the way things feel rather than how they look
